UK first LTM 1090-4.3 delivered: digital crane technology and actual-radius planning
Wire Cranes has now taken delivery of the UK’s first 90-tonne Liebherr LTM 1090-4.3, equipped with a 60m main boom and LICCON3 control system — reinforcing why lift plans must match the actual crane configuration and radius.
UK first now delivered
Wire Cranes has taken delivery of the UK’s first 90-tonne Liebherr LTM 1090-4.3 following its display at Vertikal Days. The crane has a 60m main boom, a 9.5m to 16m bi-fold swingaway extension, configurable axle loads and Liebherr’s LICCON3 control system.
The increasingly digital crane
Modern crane control systems provide operators with increasingly sophisticated information and machine assistance. These systems support safe operation, but the engineering basis of the lift must still be established through competent planning using the correct manufacturer data.
Actual radius must drive utilisation
Lift-plan utilisation should be calculated from the position and radius that will actually be used on site. An optimum theoretical position can produce a misleadingly low utilisation where the real operation takes place at a greater radius.
- Confirm crane configuration and counterweight.
- Use the applicable OEM load chart.
- Record pickup and set-down radii.
- Calculate RAG utilisation against the planned radius.
- Ensure the drawing, load schedule and capacity calculation agree.
LiftPlanProUK provides planning and management support. Site-specific information must be checked and every lifting operation approved by a competent person.
