New CPA guidance published for cantilevered crane loading platforms
CPA’s Crane Interest Group and Tower Crane Interest Group have supported new guidance covering selection, site preparation, training, installation, operation, inspection and de-rigging of cantilevered crane-loaded platforms.
New industry guidance
CPA announced on 20 October 2026 that its Crane Interest Group and Tower Crane Interest Group have supported, badged and published guidance written by Conquip for temporary cantilevered crane-loaded platforms.
The publication addresses selection, site preparation, training, installation, operation, inspection and de-rigging. CPA notes that these platforms have become commonplace on major projects while guidance has historically been largely manufacturer-specific.
A lifting and temporary-works interface
Cantilevered loading platforms create an important interface between lifting operations, temporary works and the supporting structure. Planning should ensure the platform arrangement, permitted loads, crane duty, landing sequence and site controls are coordinated.
- Confirm platform selection and permitted loading.
- Coordinate installation and support requirements through temporary works controls.
- Include the landing location and crane radius in the lift plan.
- Control material placement and prevent platform overloading.
- Define inspection requirements and competent supervision.
- Plan installation and de-rigging as controlled operations.
LiftPlanProUK relevance
Tower-crane planning, load schedules, lift drawings and supporting temporary-works documents should be kept together so AP and TWC decisions remain aligned and auditable.
LiftPlanProUK provides planning and management support. Site-specific information must be checked and every lifting operation approved by a competent person.
